Security fence or apartheid wall? The first section of Israel's separation barrier winds approximately 108 miles through the northwestern Palestinian West Bank, inhibiting the freedom of movement of Palestinians and blocking their access to food, water, education, and medical services. For most of its path, the barrier is not being built on or near the 1967 Green Line. As the barrier annexes large areas of the West Bank, Palestinian communities are being cut into cantons, enclaves and "military zones."

Kymberlie Quong Charles will present detailed photos and maps developed by the Palestinian Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PENGON) to illustrate the human rights consequences of the separation barrier and discuss how its construction affects the prospects for peace and a future Palestinian state.

Charles is the Program Assistant for the Israel-Palestine Peacebuilding Unit at the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) national office.
