Joel Beinin has taught Middle East history at Stanford University since 1983. His research and writing focuses on workers, peasants, and minorities in the modern Middle East and on Israel, Palestine, and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Lisa Hajjar, a sociologist, is an associate professor in the Law and Society Program at the University of California-Santa Barbara. She is author of the 2005 book, Courting Conflict: The Israeli Military Court System in the West Bank and Gaza.

The Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine (CJPIP) is a community-based organization founded to develop and support activities that further the cause of peace and justice in Palestine/Israel. The 2005-06 Community Education and Dialog Series, running September 2005 through May 2006, will bring distinguished speakers and cultural events to Chicago-area audiences, including Yigal Bronner, Michael Tarazi, Joel Beinin, Lisa Hajjar, Kathleen & Bill Christison, and Nadia Hijab, and several multimedia events.
