Hear their up-to-the-minute analysis of the role of multifaith networks in peace advocacy, as well as the significance of the growing movement for boycott, sanctions, and divestment from institutions that empower and profit from the Israeli occupation.

Meet Max Blumenthal and see excerpts of his soon-to-be-released film documentary, Israel’s Terror Inside, which examines an important story largely ignored in the U.S. media: Israel’s repression of internal dissent and its discriminatory attitudes and activities–both official and informal–directed against its own non-Jewish citizens. Blumenthal’s previous video work on Israel/Palestine issues includes the YouTube-banned shorts Feeling the Hate in Tel Aviv and Feeling the Hate in Jerusalem. His incendiary new book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement That Shattered the Party, is a New York Times best-seller.

Cliff Kelly, host of WVON-1690AM’s hit show The Talk of Chicago, will moderate a panel discussion among distinguished African American analysts with special expertise on the Palestinian struggle for justice. Participants include: Lynette Jackson, associate professor in Gender and Women’s Studies and African American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Prexy Nesbitt, a veteran solidarity activist with  the liberation and justice struggles of southern Africa; and Gwendolyn Zoharah Simmons, assistant professor in Islamic Studies, Women and Religion, and African-American Religious Traditions at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

This Palestinian Life

Philip Rizk’s profound new short film This Palestinian Life takes a compelling, oral history approach, listening to women and men, young and old, as they relate their experiences under Israeli occupation. The film focuses on the Palestinians’ sumud (the Arabic term for steadfastness and perseverance) in the face of Israeli settler violence, Israeli government duplicity, and abandonment by the international community. Filmmaker Philip Rizk is an Egyptian-German freelance journalist and graduate of Wheaton College who currently lives in Cairo, Egypt. From 2005 to 2007 he lived in Gaza while working with NGO-based relief and development projects.

A procession in Hyde Park will follow the public hearings. Hosted by the American Friends Service Committee (Chicago); co-sponsored by CJPIP and other area organizations.
