The 2007 Israel/Palestine Travel Scholarship Award

What is the travel scholarship award program?

The Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine sponsors an annual scholarship to a community resident to help defray the expenses of a first-time visit to Israel/Palestine. This program was inaugurated in 2006 to encourage and promote first-hand, on-the-ground experience in Israel/Palestine.

What is the amount of the scholarship award?

A single award of $500 will be awarded to one recipient. All other tour and related costs are the responsibility of the award recipient.

Who is eligible?

Any resident of Oak Park, River Forest, or Forest Park who has not previously traveled to Israel/Palestine may apply for the scholarship. The tour participant must be age 17 or older at the time of departure.

What is the process for applying?

Applicants will submit an application form provided by CJPIP on request. A personal statement by the applicant (appx. 1,000 words) will accompany the application form. Finalists will be interviewed in person by the members of the scholarship award committee.

What is the application deadline, and when will the finalist be selected?

The application deadline is January 15, 2007. The finalist will be selected and notified on or before February 15, 2007.

When will the award recipient travel to Israel/Palestine?

Travel scholarship monies must by used for travel on a trip beginning before January 1, 2008.

To what tours can the scholarship award be applied?

Qualifying organizations include Global Exchange, American Friends Service Committee, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, Faculty for Israeli-Palestinian Peace, Birthright Unplugged, Christian Peacemaker Teams, Compassionate Listening Project, Interfaith Peace-Builders, Holy Land Trust, Ministry of Money, and others at the discretion of the award committee.

What is required of award recipients after the tour?

The scholarship recipient will make a public presentation at a CJPIP-sponsored community event and will be available for CJPIP-initiaited interviews by the Oak Park/River Forest/Forest Park press.
