The tragedy of Israeli-Palestinian violence continues daily. The Wall, separating people from their fields, schools, families and community is snaking its way through the West Bank, undermining chances of a just peace for Israelis and Palestinians. It is time to turn walls of separation into bridges of peaceful coexistence. Come raise your voice for peace; take action for justice. Join with Jews, Muslims, Christians and secular humanists in a constructive expression of commitment and hope.
Walk for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine: From Scoville Park (downtown Oak Park) we’ll walk west to Harlem Ave., back along Lake St. to Oak Park Ave., south to Pleasant St. and back north to the Park. (1.8 miles total).
Advocacy Buffet and Potluck: After the walk, we’ll meet at First United Church, 848 Lake Street, to write hundreds of letters on a number of issues to national and civic leaders, urging them to stop ignoring this crisis and take courageous action toward a just and peaceful resolution. Please bring a potluck dish to share. Activism requires all kinds of nourishment; we’ll share the table as we share our hopes.
Please Bring Signs and Banners: The organizers of this interfaith walk for peace reject all anti-Jewish and anti-Arab language and symbols. We are committed to nonviolence in word and deed and our goal is to stand against all hatred and to give witness to the dream that all people of faith and of secular commitment can come together in the cause of peace with justice in Israel and Palestine.
